Spark Business, presented by Capital One, has created a one-of-a-kind corporate social media competition that measures growth and level of engagement in social media networks through online votes. Small business lending rose to the highest level in more than four years in December. This is encouraging news for the small business sector of the economy. The Thomson Reuters/PayNet Small Business Lending index reported Wednesday that small business lending jumped nearly 20% in December, its 17th consecutive double-digit rise. December’s lending numbers were the highest since August of 2007.

PayNet founder, Bill Phelan, expressed encouragement from the strong numbers, and stated that “there’s some underlying strength” in the small business community. PayNet tracks borrowing by millions of small business in the U.S., and collects real-time loan information from more than 250 leading U.S. capital equipment lenders.
